The Real Estate Center at Texas A&M University reports that the latest Multiple Listing Service (MLS) data shows that existing home sales in Texas were up 20 percent over May 2011. In addition to the upsurge in sales of existing homes, new home permits also had a significant increase of 20.5% year-to-date. Research Economist Dr. Jim Gaines from the Real Estate Center states that, “Texas is one of the few markets in the country where new home construction is beginning to really pick up and show signs of life again.”
